Psychiatry is a Medical Discipline which deals with mental, emotional or behavioural conditions.
A Psychiatrist is a Medical Doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of Mental Illnesses.

Understanding Mental Illness
There following requirements in order for any Psychiatric Disorder to be diagnosed.
Firstly, specific symptoms of the illness or illnesses must be met.
Secondly, the ability to perform normal activities will be adversely affected i.e. social, inter-personal, occupational and/or academic difficulties.
Thirdly, it is important to exclude other another medical condition or substance use condition.
TREATMENT
Understanding treatment
"Chemical Imbalance" is often used to explain the cause of psychiatric illness.
Medication is used to correct the chemical imbalance and/or manage symptoms.
